Research at the intersection of behaviour, physiology, and conservation
I am an applied animal behaviourist and focus my work to be used for conservation, using a broad array of methods to answer questions regarding perception, communication, and species interactions.
Currently, my research focus is on North American migratory bat species and their ecology and conservation. Migratory bats play vital roles in their ecosystems that researchers are just beginning to understand. However, hundreds of thousands of bats are killed at wind turbines each year causing rapid population decline and a very real extinction risk. My research aims to understand the ecology of migratory bats in their northern ranges where they are known to go to have their pups in the summer. By understanding their ecology, we can help make informed and effecteive conservation policy.
